Easy Logistics

Solid Retail Concept packaging is cost-effective throughout the whole logistics chain

  • Solid board is very compact. This means lower costs for both internal and external logistics.
  • Trouble free packing with automatic systems and high speeds.
  • Pallet utilisation optimised.
  • Solid board is strong and stable so that products are protected properly. Solid board remains stable in a humid environment (such as during chilled transportation).
  • Transport and retail packaging in one. The packaging can be opened easily and quickly at the point of sale and be used there as a sales display.

The advantages of Solid Retail Concept on the supply chain:

Packaging material costs and related expenses

Alongside the costs for sales packaging, outer packaging and transport packaging, it's also necessary to consider the costs which arise in printing (block, printing plates), as well as the costs of labels, adhesives and all tools used. We're ready and willing to carry out a cost analysis for your particular requirements.

Internal logistics of packaging materials

Solid Board’s thickness is significantly lower than that of corrugated board. This means that the volume of delivered packaging material is reduced. As a result, the costs of internal logistics for packaging materials in the packing industry, for example, transportation into packaging material storage, storage costs, transportation to packing location etc., can be lowered correspondingly.

Packing process

Manual packing
Solid Board can be processed with considerably greater precision in comparison to corrugated board. The basis for this is the lower volume and the absence of flute ridges and depressions. This makes packaging designs possible which can either be realised only with difficulty using corrugated board, or not at all. Manual packing is markedly simplified by the precisely processed and optimised Solid Board packaging design. As a consequence, the personnel expenditure required is also lower.

Automatic packing
Solid Board exhibits a very high degree of flatness. When combined with precise die cutting and high folding accuracy, this leads to a significantly higher efficiency in automatic packing processes. Packaging with tear-open systems implemented in Solid Board are generally using reverse scoring, which offers - in comparison to perforation - the advantage in the packing process of being considerably more stable and thus enabling higher packing speeds without faults or interruptions.

Labelling

Due to its high quality lining paper, Solid Board can be printed directly using inkjet and laser printing processes. In doing so, barcodes can be placed directly on to the board. In many cases, this means adhesive labels are no longer required.

Palletising

With Solid Board's thinness, the external dimensions of outer packaging are 10 - 20 mm smaller (depending on the number of board walls) than those of comparable corrugated board packaging. As a consequence, pallet utilisation is enhanced, usually by at least 10% at least. This results in a more stable, lower dynamic load during transportation and this leads in turn to the option of stacking pallets higher, producing a substantial cost advantage in the supply chain.

Storage

Optimal utilisation of pallet capacity can, of course, also lead to great potential savings in the area of in-house logistics for packaged goods. A further advantage of SRC packs is their special suitability for frozen goods. This is a result of the Solid Board five-layered construction with the integrated moisture barrier which reduces condensation.

Transportation

The positive consequence of the reduction in packaging volume leads to at least a 10% gain in pallet utilisation. This naturally also has advantageous effects on transport costs. The improved efficiency of pallet stacking normally leads to a reduced dynamic load during transportation. This means the loads on pallets can be stacked higher - leading to significant cost savings in the delivery chain.
